Welcome Readers!
I didn't get to making Ninja and Islander cards today, but I did start something else important. I started to make a Rule Book for Lego Battles: The Card Game. I looked over the requirements for the Boy Scout Merit Badge Game Design, and I saw one thing was to create a clear, complete rule book. It seemed like a good place to start today.
In any TCG the rules are always complex and confusing. When looking at advice for making games, I learned that games with lots of rules, like a TCG, are fun to play. I also learned, however, that complicated rulings create a "barrier" to starting the game. "Go Fish", for example, has few rules and a clear goal, but the game is always very similar and there isn't much surprise or change. Trading Card Games, on the other hand, have more rules and more surprise, but that doesn't mean Go Fish is less fun. Sometimes it's fun to play a simple game, but I'm not the kind of person to design merely a "simple" game.
So I thought about how to explain the rules simply. I managed to narrow down some clear main points and major parts of the game. Later this week I will probably write down and post these rules. I wanted to try to explain the rules so they don't seem way too confusing or ridiculous. I explained them to my dad, and he seemed to think that the way I explained it was pretty simple.
Now I have one more thing to do and one less day to do it. I still have plenty of time to finish, but I don't want to put it off much longer. The last thing I want is to go to work on the Merit Badge and not be ready. Again, I should be able to finish easily, but I need to get moving.
